$48.79, not too shabby

Week 2 and made the goal!   This was a challenge because of Sandy's unfortunate arrival....I have water on hand because I bought the three cases last week and still had water on hand from the last sale.   Making my own bread was successful so I have plenty of bread too, I made more this morning.

So I went to ShopRite this morning and was probably the only customer not buying water and bread.   I just wanted to get my sale items.   Canada Dry soda was on sale 5 12 packs for $11.00.   Hunt's products are on sale and if you buy 10 you get $5.00 towards your next order.  I bought six cans of diced tomatoes and 4 cans of Manwich which makes an easy dinner when you are short on time.   The only coupon I used was for Ellio's pizza, on sale for $1.99, the coupon was in this week's newspaper, the $0.75 coupon was multiplied up to $1.00 so the pizza was $0.99.  At the end of this trip I spent $47.53 and saved $40.09.   Some other items bought were 18 eggs, 3 packs of pork roll, three bags of frozen vegetables, 2 bags of fries and potato chips.

I then went to CVS and had another great CVS trip.   I bought a 50 count Advil PM and a 3 count of Thermacare wraps.   The Advil is on sale for $7.99 and the wraps are on sale for $6.79.   There are coupons for both in the newspaper this week, $1.00 off of each.   If you buy two you will get $5.00 Extra Bucks off of your next order.   You would pay $12.78 out of pocket and then get the $5.00 towards next week.   I had $12.00 in Extra Bucks from previous trips so I ended up paying $1.26 for both items and saved $15.20.   I received the $5.00 Extra Bucks and then also received a $1.00 Extra Buck since it was the fourth time I used my green bag.   Since Advil PM is $8.99 regular price I think this was a fabulous deal.

I hope I have everything I need to get through the storm but I am sure I do, a true couponer is stocked for all occasions.   Be safe and have a great week!

First day and already out

Wow, my first trip and I am already not going to be under $50.00 but I am not defeated.   Some of the purchases made today are setting me up for the weeks to come.

I spent $42.04 at ShopRite, buying 3 24 packs of Deer Park Water, 4 cans of Libby's corn, Knorr beef stock, 2 12 packs of Dr. Pepper, Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Cereal, 4 Yo Crunch, 8 Yoplait light, 4 boxes of Kellogg's Fiber Plus (the mister is not a happy camper without his fiber bars), 2 packs of meatloaf mix (beef, pork, veal), 1 box of Idahoan Potato Casserole, a box of non fat instant milk, and two bags of ShopRite brand frozen vegetables.  The instant milk is going to be used to make bread so that is going to help save going forward.    The water, although not needed, was on sale and you had to buy three.    I had two coupons for the fiber bars, if you bought two fiber bars you saved $1.00 on the water.  The bars were on sale so I could not pass up the deal since both items were on sale and the fiber bars make the mister happy.   I saved $50.41 at ShopRite.

CVS was beyond fabulous today.  I bought Lady Speed Stick, Pantene shampoo and Pantene conditioner, and St. Joseph cold medicine for high blood pressure (again that man of mine).   The deodorant was on sale for $2.99, there was a coupon for $1.00 off in the Sunday paper and an Extra Buck reward of $1.00.   Pantene was on sale 2 for $8.00.   The normal price is $6.99.   There was a coupon in the paper a couple of weeks ago, buy a Pantene shampoo get a Pantene conditioner or styler for free.   The coupon will scan for the original price of $6.99 so you will get both for $1.01 and then get an Extra Buck reward of $1.00.   The cold medicine was on sale for $5.00.   The Sunday paper had a coupon for $2.00 off and then you got the Extra Buck reward of $3.00.  I used a $5.00 Extra Buck reward to pay for everything bringing my total to $1.53 and I now have $5.00 to use towards my next purchase.  The price of the Pantene will be added to my Beauty Bucks Rewards, another CVS program.   Everytime you spend $50.00 on beauty items you get an additional $5.00 Extra Buck reward.   And if you bring your own bag with a CVS tag you get a $1.00 Extra Buck reward for every four times that you use the bag.

So far I have spent $43.57 but am heading out later to get lunchmeat, Deterdings, the smallest grocery store I know, has a lunchbox special that ends today.   You get 2 lbs. of tavern ham and 1 lb. of american cheese for $7.99,  that is going to put me over by $1.56.   The bonus is Deterdings is close enough that I can ride my bike and far enough that I am getting a fair amount of exercise and since I am saving gas money I am not going to let the $1.56 bother me too much.

Well that is it for this week as far as shopping.  I am now going to bake some bread sans bread machine....I will let you know how that goes....

being considerate

I am posing a new challenge to myself.  Can I shop for a family of four for $50.00 per week?  That is $12.50 per person.   Those is the know know I am a thrifty coupon shopper, not quite the level as that ridiculous show, but I do well.    But thinking it over I buy many things I don't need just because I am saving money.  Example, last week Bic Soleil razors were on sale for $3.99, normally priced at $5.49, and I had three Buy One Get One Free coupons.   So if I bought six packs at normal price I would have paid $32.94.   With the sale I bought the six packs for $11.97, saving $20.97.   Saving $20.97 is fabulous, but I use an epliator.   I don't even use razors.   So if I just didn't buy the razors at all I would have spent $0.00.

I have lived a life of stockpiling for so long that this will be a huge change and challenge for me.  I probably have enough in this house to not go shopping for at least a month.   This $50.00 will not just include food, this is for my paper products, cleaning products, toiletries, makeup, etc.   Considering how much I have on hand it will be easy at first.    As my stockpile diminishes it will get harder but I am ready for a new shopping challenge.   Stay tuned for my totals tomorrow.....
